What are the pros and cons of using a debit card over using checks?

Answered By Chuck Ivens, Editor

Carrying a debit card gives you the convenience of not carrying a bulky check with you all the time. Using a debit card is a lot faster and easier that having to write a check. Certain banks also have incentives or rewards that are attached to using a debit card. When you're using a debit card to purchase goods/services, the payment is usually posted within 24 hours since it is electronic; however, there is a chance that you might overdraw your account. The bank has certain fees that is charged whenever you use your debit card, that is why you should know what bank fees are being charged to you. Although debit cards are convenient to use, there is still a need to keep track of your expenses.
