by Alan Plastin

With the advent of the World Wide Web, you never have to settle for boring, plain personal bank checks again. You don't even have to settle for the limited availability of the personalized bank checks that your bank offers. The Internet offers a wide selection of images to make your bank checks stylish and personally yours. Even cartoon aficionados can find something to fit their style.

After nearly 80 years, Betty Boop is as popular as ever and her image is still used on hundreds of products. You can find products with her picture in many countries and even people who were not alive during her popularity in the 1930's collect her memorabilia. If you want to personalize your checks by using her image, remember that ordering online can save you 50%.

Betty Boop was created by Max Fleischer. At first, she was simply a co-star in some of the other cartoons that were popular at the time. She first appeared in Talkartoon on August 9, 1930 and became known for her charming innocence and blatant sexuality. Supposedly a combination of Helen Kane and Clara Bow, Betty made the transition to the talking screen better than Bow, who was told that her strong Brooklyn accent held her back.

Having been created during the time of the Great Depression, Betty was popular for many reasons. The biggest reason might have been the fact that she reminded people of the more carefree days with her Jazz-era style.

Another distinction Betty Boop holds is that she is generally seen as being the first "real" woman cartoon character. Part of her look included revealing outfits and a shapely woman figure. Other female cartoon characters of the era often appeared very gender-neutral with little or no distinction from the male counterparts, save for female clothes and maybe a bow in their hair.

Betty was also seen to have been fighting off unwanted male advances in a couple of the cartoons. In some, she was even tied up or held captive and had to be saved by other cartoon characters. Her male costars often tried to take peeks at her as she changed clothes and even walking down the street got her stares.

After 1934, Betty's character changed once the National Legion of Decency registered complaints. Betty began wearing full skirts and dresses and without a significant other, became a career woman.

These days, people enjoy collecting Betty Boop for multiple reasons. Since her creation, she has come to symbolize sexuality, innocence, and charm. Her image can be found on everything from postcards to beach towels and glasses. You can also find her on personal checks.

If you want to order Betty Boop personalchecks, you should first look online. Some sites, offer checks that can save you 50% than if you order them at your own bank. Ordering online will also give you a big variety of images to choose from
