why won't people give up the personal checks and get with the plastic?

Can you answer RUSHING RUSTY's question about Checks?:

I hate standing in line behind some idiot who is not only writing a check but waited until the last minute to fill it out.The only person I know who has checks is a 81 year old lady and she also waits until the last minute to fill it out and have her I.D ready then she cries when people are huffing and puffing behind her. Why oh why aren't personal checks illegal

Only in the US. The rest of the world has already moved past checks.

At 81 years old, they deserve a little extra time. Patience, RUSHING Rusty, patience. Your day to move slow is coming. Let's hope by then you get the picture! LOL

Look, I agree - it sucks to be in line behind someone only to see them "whip" out a checkbook.

But, did it ever occur to you that they may be in so much credit card debt that they cannot use their cards anymore?

If that's not it, try to be a decent human being…perhaps an 81 year old isn't comfortable charging everything. Many seniors are on a very fixed income, and their checkbook register may help them keep to that. Don't judge - move isles if it bothers you THAT much.

How up to date do you thin YOU'LL be at 81?

What should be illegal is impatient morons. You will be 81 one day and karma will give you what for. Wait and see.

PEOPLE ARE old-school, don't like change, afraid to use the plastic cards, WHO KNOWS!!! I don't get it when people stand at the cashier and write out a personal check. I'm like………."OH LORD, GET WITH THE TIMES!!!!!!" I lost my bank card the other day, I almost passed out! I use it for EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last time I wrote a check out I think was in the early 90's. It is such a PASSE THING. I also don't get people that STILL don't have a computer at home. I can't survive without mine. I think these are the same people that are STUCK IN THE 8O'S!!!!!!!

When I stand behind you in line I am writing down your credit card number. Then I go on the internet and shop away. Thank you, my kids will have a good Christmas.

I don't know, i guess it something old people do.

Almost everyone i know uses plastic. The only person i know who still uses checks is my grandmother.

Some people can better manage their money when they only spend what they have. Plastic might compel them to spend more than what they can actually afford.

And even if they had a debit card, they want the security of knowing that they don't have a card that they can easily lose and someone else can just use without a problem.

A check, to me, is like an IOU. It's like a note from your mom saying, "I don't have the cash today, but I can give you this paper that I filled out. It has all my information on it." I'm embarrassed to EVER write a check that's not going in the mail. It is a big waste of time! I don't mind if old people are oldschool. Why change them now? On the other hand, I have a friend who says he can't handle a debit card, he'd spend like crazy. But with his checkbook, he has to think to himself, "Is this worth writing a check over?" Luckily, he's lazy enough to prefer not buying things over filling out the check. To each his own. Or her own…

Habit. The old folks know they work and they are comfortable.

When you are 81, you probably won't be using the cranial implant the youngsters do, and they'll be bitching about how long you take using your credit card.

A personal check is very hard to track purchases, when you use plastic every damn thing you buy can be traced!

jonn449 @ 4:27 pm

You need to get out more if you only know one person that uses checks.
I use checks, ATM debit cards, cash, and credit cards….my choice of when and where.
If you don't like being behind someone in line using checks, change lines………..
better yet, grow up and shut up! The world doesn't revolve around you or your impatience
